George Etomi is a renowned Lawyer and Founder and Principal Partner of George Etomi & Partners. He has 40 years of active practice and has gathered a wealth of experience in diverse areas of Law and has played a significant role in the development of Corporate and Commercial Law practice in Nigeria.
He started his legal career in one of the premier commercial law firms in Nigeria, Chris Ogunbanjo & Co under the mentorship of Chief Ogunbanjo before the establishment of his law firm in 1984.
George’s extensive experience in commercial transactions extends from arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods to legislative drafting and competition law and policy, as well as legal advisory. He has done this across a myriad of industries including Aviation, Building, Construction, Banking and Finance, Energy and Natural Resources and Telecommunications. He was closely involved in acting for the first mobile telephone service in the country and advises major foreign airlines operating in Nigeria.
Owing to his keen interest in Energy and Natural Resources, he has worked over the years with numerous International Oil Companies, the Nigerian Government and private investors on various transactions including asset acquisitions as well as concession of successor companies in the Nigerian power privatization process.
George serves as Director and Chairman on a variety of Boards in Nigeria and internationally. These include: Daily Times of Nigeria, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKDC), Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies. He was appointed a member of the Body of Benchers, the highest regulatory body of the legal profession in Nigeria.
George holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) with a Master’s Degree in Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He also attended the Chief Executive Programme of the Lagos Business School. He is a member of Center for Petroleum Law Research (CPLR).
